Gender Studies doctorate
At the University of Zurich, it is possible to complete a doctorate in Gender Studies with 12 ECTS credits.
Dissertations in Gender Studies are supervised by Prof. Dr. Bettina Dennerlein and must correspond to the Islamic Studies profile of the chair (gender studies with a regional focus on North Africa and the Middle East; Islamic family law; women’s and human rights movements; gender in law and religion; sexual politics).

The one-day PhD Working Group Gender Studies, organized by the Gender Studies Department, allows doctoral students from all disciplines who are writing a dissertation with a focus on gender to discuss excerpts from their dissertation with peers.

The interdisciplinary certified doctoral program in Gender Studies was closed in 2023. The network and collaboration with the doctoral programs in Gender Studies in Basel and Bern continues through the Interuniversity Doctoral Program in Gender Studies Switzerland (IDP).
