Welcome to Gender Studies

Gender Studies are one of the youngest academic disciplines. They examine the significance of gender and gender differences at the cultural, psychological, and social level and explore the relationship between biological and physiological characteristics that differentiate between genders and sociocultural constructions of gender norms. Because gender plays a central role in a wide variety of areas of life and knowledge, teaching and research in this subject area are organized on an interdisciplinary basis.
Thematic focus areas at UZH include literature and culture, non-European societies, transregional and postcolonial studies.
