About Us

Gender Studies at UZH

Gender Studies encompass topics related to women’s studies, masculinity studies, gender research as well as queer theory. They examine the significance of gender and gender differences from a historical, culturally comparative, and theoretically reflective perspective. Gender Studies explore the form and function of biological, psychological, and cultural distinctions in gender relations. They examine processes of social construction and renegotiation of gender.

At UZH, we understand gender studies as a decidedly interdisciplinary field – as a perspective that is applied in different ways in different disciplines. The thematic focus of our master’s program is on gender theories and theoretical foundations, literature and culture, non-European societies, transregional and postcolonial studies.
