Metadata

for information describing items in the repository

All Metadata in ZORA are public domain (CC0). Anyone can access, copy, distribute, and re-use the metadata for any purpose free of charge.

Data

for full-text and other full data items

Anyone may access full items free of charge.

Unless otherwise noted or marked, copies of full items generally can be:

  • reproduced in any format or medium
  • for personal research or study purposes without prior permission or charge.
  • provided:
  • the authors, title and full bibliographic details are given
  • a hyperlink and/or URL are given for the original metadata page
  • the content is not changed in any way

Full items must not be harvested by robots except transiently for full-text indexing or citation analysis

Full items must not be sold commercially in any format or medium without formal permission of the copyright holders

Citation Count Data

for third party citation information

Citation count data from third party providers available in the repository is "all rights reserved". This data may not be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system or transmitted in any form or by any means without the prior permission of the copyright holder.
University of Zurich disclaims all warranties with regard to third party citation data.

Content

for types of document & data set held

Zurich Open Repository and Archive is restricted to: Journal articles, Conference and workshop papers, Theses and dissertations, Books, chapters and sections, Other special item types

Deposited items may include: accepted versions (author's final peer-reviewed drafts) published versions (publisher-created files)
Items are individually tagged with: their peer-review status. their publication status.

Submission

concerning depositors, quality & copyright

  1. Items may only be deposited by accredited members of the institution, or their delegated agents.
  2. Eligible depositors must deposit bibliographic metadata for all their publications.
  3. Eligible depositors must deposit full texts of all their publications, although they may delay making them publicly visible to comply with publishers' embargos.
  4. The administrator only vets items for the eligibility of authors/depositors, relevance to the scope of Zurich Open Repository and Archive, valid layout & format, and the exclusion of spam
  5. The validity and authenticity of the content of submissions is the sole responsibility of the depositor.
  6. Items can be deposited at any time, but will not be made publicly visible until any publishers' or funders' embargo period has expired.
  7. If Zurich Open Repository and Archive receives proof of copyright violation, the relevant item will be removed immediately.

Preservation

  1. Items will be retained indefinitely
  2. Zurich Open Repository and Archive will try to ensure continued readability and accessibility. Items will be migrated to new file formats where necessary. It may not be possible to guarantee the readability of some unusual file formats.
  3. Zurich Open Repository and Archive regularly backs up its files according to current best practice
  4. Items may not normally be removed from Zurich Open Repository and Archive.
  5. Acceptable reasons for withdrawal include: Journal publishers' rules Proven copyright violation or plagiarism Legal requirements and proven violations National Security Falsified research
  6. Withdrawn items are not deleted per se, but are removed from public view.
  7. Withdrawn items' identifiers/URLs are retained transiently.
  8. URLs will continue to point to 'tombstone' citations, to avoid broken links and to retain item histories.
  9. The metadata of withdrawn items will not be searchable.
  10. Changes to deposited items are premitted under certain circumstances.
  11. Errata and corrigenda lists may be included with the original record if required.
  12. If necessary, an updated version may be deposited. The item's persistent URL will always link to the latest version. The earlier version may be withdrawn from public view.
  13. In the event of Zurich Open Repository and Archive being closed down, the database will be transferred to another appropriate archive.
