Chinese Studies at the University of Zurich focuses on a text analytical-philological engagement with the literary heritage of traditional China, as well as the language and literature of modern China.
Within this framework, we offer solid language training in modern and ancient Chinese on the one hand, and courses focusing on canonical, historical, philosophical and literary texts on the other. In the required dissertation, students can choose to focus on traditional or modern China.
On the basis of regional or disciplinary proximity, the following minor subjects are suggested by way of example as part of a degree in Chinese Studies: Japanese Studies, East Asian Art History, Religious Studies (Theological Faculty)
