Inhalt
Taiwan's multilayered ethno-political history has led to the modern state of a unique and complex interplay of multiple distinct indigenous languages, Sinitic varieties, Japanese, and English. Drawing from his experience in language documentation and collaboration with language educators of Formosan languages in Nantou County, Kevin Bätscher (Ph.D., University of Hawaii) provides insights into this fascinating linguistic landscape, delineates varying visions for Taiwan's linguistic future, and comments on the governmental, academic and communal efforts to preserve Taiwan's linguistic heritage, their challenges and achievements.
