Hermann Cohen (1842-1918) was the founder of the Marburg School of Neo-Kantianism. In 1969, Prof. em. Dr. Dr. h. c. Helmut Holzhey founded the Hermann Cohen Archive at the Department of Philosophy at the University of Zurich with the aim of establishing a center for Hermann Cohen research and thus also promoting research into Neo-Kantianism. Not only were documents on the life and work of Hermann Cohen collected, but his writings were also edited. In 1977, the first volume of the planned series "Logik der reinen Erkenntnis" was published. Today the collection is part of the holdings of the UB Philosophy.

The collection is named after Walter Robert Corti (1910-1990), who worked as an editor and publicist for the Swiss magazine "Du". He founded the Pestalozzi Children's Village in Trogen AR. He was also very interested in philosophical questions and the founding of a "Philosophical Academy". This interest gave rise to an extensive collection, the "Archiv für genetische Philosophie". In the 1990s, a large part of this archive was handed over to the Ethics Research Institute (ERI) at the Center for Ethics. This ERI is part of the Department of Philosophy of the University of Zurich. Today, this collection is part of the holdings of the UB Philosophy and is located at the UB Ethics. His personal written legacy was donated to the Zentralbibliothek Zürich.
