Consecutive Master - Chinese Studies

Consecutive Master – Sinology
Do you want to deepen your knowledge of China? Our MA programme allows you to pursue your individual interests and academic goals. It offers a highly specialised, transdisciplinary, and internationally oriented environment in which to develop your own scholarly approach to the field. You will acquire advanced proficiency in the Chinese language and take your first steps toward independent academic research.
Programme Structure
You can study Sinology at the Master’s level either as a Major (90 ECTS credits) or as a Minor (30 ECTS credits). Both options allow you to build on the China-related knowledge and language skills acquired during your BA studies. A broad range of courses and thematic specialisations tailored to your specific research interests will help you engage with relevant theoretical approaches and research methodologies.
Our language courses equip you with the ability to read and translate Classical Chinese sources from a wide variety of genres, spanning nearly three thousand years of history. You will also learn to work confidently with both modern academic writing and everyday modern Chinese language. In addition, you will develop the oral and written language skills necessary to participate actively in Chinese academic discourse. You may choose your research focus from areas such as linguistics, literature, society, history, philosophy, religion, or the history of knowledge.
