Renewal Taiwan Studies Cooperation 2026

University of Zurich renews Taiwan Studies cooperation with Taiwan’s Ministry of Education in September 2026

The University of Zurich (UZH) has renewed its cooperation with Taiwan’s Ministry of Education through a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) supporting the Taiwan Studies Project at the Institute of Asian and Oriental Studies. The renewed agreement, signed in September 2026, extends the collaboration for another five years.
Established in 2017, the Taiwan Studies Project promotes research, teaching, and academic exchange on Taiwan at UZH. Over the years, the project has supported a range of academic activities and contributed to strengthening Taiwan Studies at UZH. Among its recent scholarly outputs is the 2025 edited volume Changing Dynamics in Geopolitics: Implications for Taiwan, co-edited by UZH’s Simona A. Grano and Chun-yi Lee of the University of Nottingham. Published by Palgrave Macmillan, the volume brings together contributions from scholars from Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Asia-Pacific region to examine Taiwan’s evolving geopolitical environment, cross-Strait security, and China–US competition.
The renewed MoU will support a range of activities in Taiwan Studies, including teaching initiatives, academic events, and research-related activities. It will further strengthen Taiwan Studies as an area of research and education at UZH.
The renewed agreement continues a long-standing partnership between UZH and Taiwan’s Ministry of Education and reflects a shared commitment to fostering academic exchange and advancing knowledge and understanding of Taiwan, including its society, politics, history, and international relations.
