Youngtae Shin teaches at the Department of Political Science, University of Central Oklahoma. Her publications have focused on the relationship between state, society and women, including Women and Politics in Japan and Korea (Mellen Press, 2004) and Asian Women’s Political Voice (Sookmyung Women’s University, 2006). Her newest book Protest Politics and the Democratization of South Korea: Strategies and Roles of Women (Lexington Books, 2015) is about protest politics and social movements led by a group of women, the “Mothers,” who were inadvertently drawn into South Korea’s democratization movement from the 1970s to the 2000s.
