UB German Studies & Nordic Language and Literature

• There are around 200 study spaces, whereof 3 with PC/screen (see devices).
• UZH members can book some of these study spaces online viabooked-UB.
• Some study spaces can be used without prior reservation.
• Vacant study spaces can be used at any time, but reservations take priority.

Long-term Study Spaces

• There are 44 long-term study spaces available that can be used by students of the Department of German and Scandinavian Studies who are writing a Bachelor's or Master's thesis or a dissertation.
• To book a long-term study space, use the Application for Long-term Study Space.

Group Study Room

Borrow and Return

• Self-checkout station
• Book returns box at the entrance. UZH members can return items from 7:00am - 11:00pm here.
• Please note that items will not be cleared from the library account until the next working day (check due date!)

• Printer (UZH Print Plus instructions)

Lockers

• 20 long-term lockers (CHF 20.00, 6 months loan, reservation possible via swisscovery)
• 144 lockers (free of charge, 28 days loan, reservation possible via swisscovery)

• Locker keys can be borrowed at the location.

Literature

The literature section of the library mainly collects primary literature by German-language authors. The associated secondary literature is also taken into account. The majority of the works are from the 19th and 20th century. Another focus of the collection is the field of literary theory.

Linguistics

The linguistics section of the library contains research literature on numerous topics in German linguistics and its neighboring disciplines. Different generations of teachers have shaped the collection with their various research priorities. Certain areas are very well represented and have been maintained since the founding of the library in the 19th century.

Nordic Languages & Literature

The library of Nordic Language and Literature is one of the largest Nordic studies libraries in the German-speaking world. Literature on almost every aspect of Nordic literary and intellectual history, linguistics, and medieval studies can be found here. One focus is on Nordic primary and secondary literature.

The medieval section, with all relevant literature on Runic Lore, Edda texts, Skaldic poetry, saga literature, as well as spiritual and academic prose texts, also makes a large part of the collection.
